Awesome as always, but...

The last time we saw Natalie Jinju was this past October at The Electric Factory in Philly, and they absolutely rocked the place. It may have been that experience that set my expectation bar a little too high. Getting to meet the guys after the show topped off a near perfect concert. This is the second time we have seen them in the past year.

Their set was also 30 minutes shorter and one encore vs a double encore last time. But just as my fiance and I had both feared, they played two songs from the new album that, in my opinion, are very unlike Mike Ness. Those songs were "You Can't Take it with You" and "California (Hustle & Flow)" complete with gospel-esque back-up singers. Overall, the set list was phenomenal. They even played (a more folksy version of) "Reach for the Sky," which is my favorite song of theirs that they skipped the last time we saw them. They closed with "Ring of Fire" in typical fashion.

It seemed that the energy in the crowd really died down during those two songs, and unfortunately, those two were right before the "Ring of Fire" finish, so the energy never fully came back. As far as the venue goes, Stage AE is a great new place that is versatile with both indoor and outdoor shows. Once again, in my opinion, this should be taken as a learning experience for them, as the show seemed to be oversold, and the pit area was far more crowded than any other show I've EVER been to. This was their first outdoor show, originally slated to be indoor. I'm guessing that since the show was nearly sold out, they moved it to the more spacious outdoor setting to sell more tickets.
